Oblivion

The Big Announcement

Bethesda just shocked fans by releasing a full remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. After weeks of rumors and leaked Steam listings, the 2006 RPG classic got a surprise launch on PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. Right now, you can buy it for $49.99, or play it through Game Pass Ultimate.

Virtuos Games (the studio behind Dark Souls: Remastered) rebuilt the game using Unreal Engine 5. This upgrade brings sharper textures, better lighting, and smoother visuals. However, Bethesda kept parts of the original engine to preserve the game’s classic feel.

What’s Different in Oblivion?

The remaster tweaks the UI and leveling system to match modern RPG standards. Combat feels heavier thanks to improved animations and sound effects. Even small quality-of-life changes—like adding a sprint button—make the experience smoother.

Fans wonder if classic glitches (like the infamous paintbrush stairway trick) still work. Bethesda hasn’t confirmed yet. Mod support is also unclear—will old Oblivion mods work? Can players go wild like they do with Skyrim? The modding community will likely find out fast.

For now, Oblivion Remastered delivers a fresh look at Cyrodiil while keeping the magic of the original. Whether you’re nostalgic or new to the game, it’s time to revisit the gates of Oblivion.
