Netflix will stop working on first-generation Fire TV devices starting June 3rd. The streaming giant is specifically ending support for the original Fire TV streaming box, the first Fire TV Stick, and the 2016 Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote. Currently, Netflix is emailing affected users in the U.S. about the change.
Meanwhile, Amazon appears to be offering discounts on newer Fire TV Sticks to impacted customers, according to German reports. To check if your device is affected, simply go to Settings > My Fire TV > About.
Why This Change is Happening
Netflix explains that older devices often can’t receive critical updates or support new features. Recently, the company updated its help pages with error codes (R4, R12, and R25-1) that users might see after support ends.
While this may frustrate some longtime Fire TV owners, it reflects the tech industry’s push to phase out aging hardware. If you’re still using one of these early models, now’s the perfect time to upgrade to a newer streaming device that can handle Netflix’s latest features!
