Former England cricketer Jonathan Trott criticized India captain Shubman Gill for losing his temper during Day 3 of the Lord’s Test. Trott said Gill, as team leader, should have stayed calm and acted responsibly.

The incident happened near the end of the day’s play. England’s Zak Crawley stopped multiple times before facing a ball from Jasprit Bumrah. Gill thought England was wasting time. He argued with Ben Duckett and said sharp words to the English batters. Later, Crawley got hit on the hand and took a break for medical help. While Crawley was being treated, Gill clapped mockingly and pointed at the dressing room, showing his frustration. Bumrah then bowled a fast ball that Crawley missed, ending the day on a tense note.

Trott compared Gill’s behavior to Virat Kohli, who was often emotional on the field. Trott said playing with energy is good, but a captain must stay controlled. “We don’t know if England players said anything, but I didn’t like Gill’s actions,” Trott said on JioHostar. “A captain must set the right example. Arguing and pointing fingers is not the right way to play.”

However, Trott praised Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul for their smart batting. He said they read the bowlers well and played wisely. “They attacked bad balls and defended well when needed. They took singles and kept scoring,” Trott added. “Good players know when to stay patient and when to attack. Pant and Rahul balanced both perfectly.”

Trott’s comments highlight the importance of leadership and composure in cricket. While passion is good, captains must stay calm under pressure. Gill’s reaction showed frustration, but Trott believes better control would set a stronger example for the team. Meanwhile, Pant and Rahul’s performance proved how smart batting can keep the game moving smoothly.
