On June 24, 2025, in London, Wimbledon shared some super fun news! They’re going to make a statue of Sir Andy Murray to celebrate him. This will happen in 2027, when Wimbledon turns 150 years old. Andy’s a big tennis star, and this statue will show how much everyone loves him.

I’m so pumped about this! Andy’s such a cool guy, and a statue at Wimbledon is the best way to say “you’re awesome.” I can’t wait to see it!

Why Andy’s So Special

Andy Murray did some really great things in tennis.
In 2012, he won the US Open, beating Novak Djokovic in a super long match. He was the first British player to win a big tournament since Virginia Wade in 1977. Then, in 2013, he won Wimbledon, the first British guy to do that since Fred Perry in 1936. That ended a 77-year wait for a British man to win at home! In 2016, he won Wimbledon again and became the world’s best player. He also won gold medals at the Olympics in 2012 and 2016. That’s so cool!

Wow, Andy’s story is amazing. He worked so hard and made British people so proud. Winning Wimbledon must’ve been the best feeling ever!

The Statue Idea

Debbie Jevans, the lady who runs Wimbledon, talked about this on a podcast called Ainslie + Ainslie Performance People.
She said they’re teaming up with Andy and his friends to make the statue just right. They want to show it in 2027 to celebrate Wimbledon’s 150th birthday, since it started in 1877. Debbie said Andy will help pick how it looks, which is great.

I love that Andy gets to help with the statue. It’s for him, so it should be just how he likes it. I bet it’s gonna look so neat!

Other Statues at Wimbledon

Wimbledon already has a statue of Fred Perry, another British tennis hero, put up in 1984 to mark 50 years since his first win. So, Andy’s statue will be next to a legend. Back in 2018, the old Wimbledon boss, Richard Lewis, said they wanted a statue for Andy when he stopped playing. Andy retired after the 2024 Paris Olympics, so now they’re doing it.

It’s so cool to think Andy’s statue will be with Fred Perry’s. Two British stars at Wimbledon forever? That’s the best!

Keeping Andy Close

Debbie said they want Andy to stay part of Wimbledon even after he’s done playing. They saw how Rafael Nadal got a special sign at the French Open and thought, “What can we do for Andy?” A statue is a huge way to show he’s always welcome.
They’re also thinking of other ways to keep him around.

I think it’s awesome they want Andy to stay. He’s such a big part of Wimbledon, and fans would love to see him there lots!

Why This Is a Big Deal

Andy Murray made British tennis super exciting again.
His wins made so many people happy, and this statue will remind everyone of his hard work and big heart. In 2027, fans at Wimbledon will see his statue and think of those fun times, like his 2013 win. It’s a way to say a big “thank you” to a guy who gave so much to tennis.

I’m so happy for Andy. He totally deserves this. It’s like a giant hug from Wimbledon for all his great games. What do you think about this statue? Tell me!
