On June 28, 2025, the Women’s Boxing Tournament began at Saroornagar Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad. Nikhat Zareen, a two-time world champion, started strong, beating Rashi Sharma from Uttar Pradesh 4:1 in the 48–51kg group. In another cool match, Anjali from Haryana won against Manisha Moun, a world championship medalist, in the 57–60kg group.
Wow, Nikhat’s killing it! And Anjali beating a big star like Manisha? That’s so exciting! I’m pumped for this tournament!
More Stars Shine
Other boxers did great on Day 1. Nitu from Haryana, a 2023 world champion, beat Rajani Singh from Uttar Pradesh 5:0 in the 45–48kg group. Yashi Sharma from Telangana won 5:0 against K. Monisha from Tamil Nadu in the 60–65kg group. Laxmi from the TOPS team had a big 5:0 win over Ragini from Uttar Pradesh in the 51–54kg group. Ankushita Boro, a former youth world champion, is also fighting in this group.
So many cool boxers! Nitu and Yashi rocked it, and Laxmi’s win was awesome. I can’t wait to see what Ankushita does!
What’s This Tournament?
The tournament, run by the Telangana Boxing Federation with the Boxing Federation of India and Sports Authority of Telangana, goes from June 27 to July 1. It has boxers from 15 teams, including top ones like Railways, Haryana, All India Police, Services, Punjab, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Sikkim, plus Telangana and two special teams (SAI and TOPS). Over 100 boxers are fighting in 10 weight groups. The winners (gold and silver) in each group get to join the national camp in Patiala.
That’s a ton of boxers! Getting to the national camp is a big deal, so everyone’s trying their best.
How the Fights Work
Each team can send up to 10 boxers, born between January 1, 1985, and December 31, 2006. Matches have three rounds of three minutes each, with a one-minute break. Judges give points out of 10, and there’s no way to challenge their calls.
Sounds tough! Three minutes in the ring must feel so long. I bet these boxers are super strong.
Why It’s a Big Deal
This tournament is a huge chance for India’s women boxers to show how good they are and get into the national camp. Big names like Nikhat Zareen, Lovlina Borgohain (an Olympic medalist), and others are fighting hard. Day 1 was full of big wins and some surprises, like Anjali’s victory. With four more days left, it’s gonna be so fun to see who wins!
I’m so excited for these boxers! Nikhat and Anjali are awesome, and I’m cheering for everyone. Who’s your favorite boxer here? Tell me!
