Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly praised Rishabh Pant for his strong and brave performance in the Test series against England. Even though Pant got injured and could not play in the last match, Ganguly said Pant showed great skill and courage.
Pant was one of the best players for India in this series. He scored 479 runs in seven innings. He made two big hundreds in the first match at Headingley and then scored 74 runs at Lord’s, even after getting hit on his hand. His batting and never-give-up attitude helped India stay in the fight as they tried to level the five-match series. Right now, England is ahead 2-1.
Ganguly said, “Pant is a very good Test player. He hurt his foot and has a fracture, so he will need time to get better. But the way he batted in the series was amazing.”
Pant got hurt in the first innings of the fourth Test. A fast ball from Chris Woakes hit his foot after bouncing off his bat. This caused a fracture, and he had to stop playing. But the next day, he came back, even though he was in pain, and scored a brave 54 runs.
Ganguly also praised the whole team for the way they played in the fourth match. India batted for over 140 overs to save the game. Ganguly said, “India played well and saved the match. Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar batted really well.” Both players scored hundreds and helped the team avoid a loss.
Pant will miss the last match at The Oval. He wrote on social media, thanking fans for their support. He said he will start his recovery once his foot heals. “Playing for India is the best feeling of my life,” he wrote.
Tamil Nadu player N Jagadeesan has joined the team as a replacement. He will support Dhruv Jurel, who is expected to keep wickets in the final Test starting Thursday in London.
