On August 4, 2025, the Ministry of Women and Child Development gave more time—until August 15, 2025—for pregnant and new moms to join the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY). Anganwadi and ASHA workers are going door-to-door to tell women about the plan and help them sign up. The PMMVY gives money to help moms eat healthy, rest, and take care of their babies, especially girl babies. It’s part of the big Mission Shakti plan to support women.
More time to help moms? That’s awesome for families!
Money for Moms
The PMMVY gives cash to moms for their first and second kids to make up for lost work money so they can rest before and after giving birth. For the first child, moms get Rs 5,000 in two parts. For a second girl child, they get Rs 6,000 all at once after the baby is born. By July 31, 2025, over 4.05 crore moms got at least one payment, totaling Rs 19,028 crore, sent straight to their bank or post office accounts. This helps moms stay healthy and care for their babies better.
Cash to rest and eat well? That’s a big help for new moms!
How It Works
The PMMVY is run by state and Union Territory officials using a new system called PMMVYSoft, started in March 2023. It uses Aadhaar to check who’s signing up and sends money directly to moms’ Aadhaar-linked bank or post office accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The system has cool updates like:
-
A way to fix problems quickly.
-
A free helpline (14408) in many languages.
-
Face-scanning tech to confirm identities.
-
A list of women who can join.
These make it easier and faster for moms to get their money safely.
Face-scanning and a helpline? That’s super smart!
Who Benefits
This plan helps:
-
Pregnant and New Moms: They get money to eat healthy, rest, and go to doctors, making sure they and their babies stay strong.
-
Girl Babies: Extra cash for a second girl child encourages families to value girls.
-
Families: Healthier moms mean healthier kids and happier homes.
-
Workers: Anganwadi and ASHA workers reach out to every corner of India to help moms sign up.
By August 15, workers aim to reach every eligible mom, especially in villages, to make sure no one misses out.
Helping moms and girls? That’s a plan everyone loves!
Why It’s a Big Deal
The PMMVY’s extension shows India cares about moms and babies, like the Rs 6,520 crore food safety plan or India’s cricket win at The Oval. Over 4 crore moms have already gotten help, and more will now. An X post from @MinistryWCD said, “PMMVY extended to Aug 15, helping moms with Rs 19,028 crore!” This plan is making India stronger by supporting families. If you know a new mom, tell her about PMMVY! What do you think about this mom-support plan? Tell me!
