On July 16, 2025, Maharashtra’s government said it’s investigating Jamia Islamia Ishaatul Uloom, a madrasa in Akkalkuwa, Nandurbar. The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) found two Yemeni people living there illegally since their visas expired in 2016. Home Minister Pankaj Bhoyar told the state assembly that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is checking the madrasa’s huge ₹728 crore business, and the Charity Commissioner is looking into fraud claims. This started after MLA Devendra Kothe raised the issue.
Hiding Yemenis in a madrasa? That’s craz*! And ₹728 crore? This is a big deal!
What’s Wrong?
The police learned two Yemenis were staying in the madrasa long after their visas ended in 2016. They arrested them and the madrasa’s founder and president, but those two got bail. MLA Devendra Kothe said the madrasa might have:
-
Stolen tribal land: Taking land from local tribal people.
-
Cheated on scholarships: Stealing money meant for students.
-
Given fake IDs: Helping Yemenis get Aadhaar and PAN cards illegally.
MLA Harish Pimple asked how they got these IDs and wants officials who gave them punished. Bhoyar said they’ll check and take action if officials did wrong.
Fake IDs and stolen land? That’s so bad! I hope they catch everyone involved.
Medical College Problems
MLA Gopichand Padalkar said the madrasa’s medical college, which takes 60 students, is suspicious. It shows fake students and has no real patients. He also asked if all madrasas in Maharashtra will be checked for illegal residents. Bhoyar said they’ll ask the Medical Education Department to look into the college.
A college with no patients? That’s super fishy! They need to check all these places.
What’s Happening Now?
The government is acting fast:
-
ATS: Checking the Yemenis’ illegal stay.
-
ED: Looking at the madrasa’s ₹728 crore money, some from foreign countries.
-
Charity Commissioner: Investigating fraud claims.
-
Land and Scam Probes: Checking if the madrasa took tribal land or cheated on scholarships.
Kothe wants the madrasa’s license canceled. The state also told the central government about the foreign money.
Three investigations at once? They’re serious about fixing this!
Why This Is a Big Deal
This is a big issue because the madrasa might be involved in illegal stuff like hiding foreigners, stealing land, and cheating on money. Jamia Islamia, started in 1979, has schools and a medical college with 15,000 students, but now it’s in trouble. An X post from @postcard_news said it’s got “shady activities,” and locals are mad about tribal land issues. Since Nandurbar has many tribal people, this could cause more problems if not fixed.
This is such a mess! Hiding people and scamming? I’m glad they’re investigating. What do you think about this madrasa case? Tell me!
