On July 13, 2025, Surendra Kewat, a 52-year-old BJP leader, was killed in Sheikhpura village, Patna, Bihar. Two men on a motorcycle shot him four times while he was working in his fields on Saturday night, July 12. Kewat, who worked with farmers and animals, was taken to AIIMS Patna but died. This happened just days after businessman Gopal Khemka was killed on July 4. People in Patna are scared because crime is getting worse, and the police are trying to catch the killers.
This is so awful! Another killing in Patna? I hope they find who did this soon.
What Happened?
Kewat was in his field near a big road, checking his crops after dinner around 10 p.m. Two unknown men on a bike rode up, shot him in the chest, and ran away. Villagers heard the shots and found him hurt. His family rushed him to the hospital, but he didn’t make it. Police officer Kanhaiya Singh said, “Surendra was shot while working, and the men escaped.” The police are searching Patna and checking the field for clues like bullet shells.
Four shots in his own field? That’s so sad! I’m glad the police are looking for the shooters.
Who Was Surendra Kewat?
Surendra Kewat lived in Sheikhpura village and was a veterinarian who helped animals and farmers. He was part of the BJP’s Punpun group and worked with their farmer team, Kisan Morcha, before. People liked him for his kind work. His murder has upset everyone, especially since it’s so close to the killing of Gopal Khemka, a big hospital owner, shot dead on July 4 outside his home.
Kewat was such a good person! It’s terrible that someone so helpful was killed like this.
Other Crimes in Patna
Patna’s had a lot of scary crimes lately:
-
Gopal Khemka: Killed on July 4 outside his home near Gandhi Maidan.
-
Ramakant Yadav: A sand trader shot dead a few days ago.
-
Vikram Jha: A shop owner killed on July 11 in Zakariapur.
This year, Patna had 116 murders from January to May, almost one every day. People are saying the city feels unsafe, like there’s no law.
So many people killed? Patna sounds really dangerous right now!
What the Police Are Doing
The police are working fast to find the killers. They’ve:
-
Talked to Kewat’s family and neighbors.
-
Checked the field for evidence, like bullets.
-
Started searching Patna to catch the two men.
They’re looking into why this happened, maybe a fight or bigger crime problem. An X post from @Pulkits77 said people want the police to hurry up and make the city safe.
The police are trying so hard! I hope they catch those shooters and stop the crimes.
Leaders Argue About Crime
The murder has made political leaders fight. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav posted on X, “A BJP leader shot in Patna! Who’s running Bihar? The NDA government isn’t doing anything!” He said the Chief Minister’s sick and the two BJP deputy chief ministers aren’t helping. RJD’s Manoj Jha said, “Crime’s getting worse every day.” But BJP’s Shahnawaz Hussain said, “Bihar’s safe under Nitish Kumar, and the killers will be caught.” Even BJP’s Ram Kripal Yadav said people are scared and want faster police action.
Everyone’s arguing! It’s sad they’re fighting when people just want to feel safe.
Why This Matters
Surendra Kewat’s killing is a big shock, especially after Gopal Khemka, Ramakant Yadav, and Vikram Jha’s murders. Patna’s seeing too many crimes, with 116 murders this year. People are worried as Bihar gets ready for elections, and they’re blaming the Nitish Kumar government for not keeping the city safe. An X post from @AsianDigest said Bihar’s law and order is “zero.” The police need to catch the killers fast to make people feel safe again, and the government might have to work harder to stop crime.
This is such a scary time for Patna! I’m hoping things get better soon. What do you think about these crimes? Tell me!
