England won a thrilling Test match against India at Lord’s by just 22 runs. The exciting game lasted nearly five days. With this win, England now leads the five-match series 2-1. The match was part of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. India started the last day needing more runs but with only 4 wickets left. England’s fast bowlers bowled well and took quick wickets. By lunchtime, India had lost 8 wickets. But Ravindra Jadeja fought hard. He scored 61 runs without getting out. He faced 181 balls. This was his fourth Test match in a row scoring over 50 runs.
India’s other batsmen tried their best but couldn’t score enough. They were all out for 170 runs. Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer took 3 wickets each for England. Brydon Carse got 2 wickets. Chris Woakes and Shoaib Bashir, who played with a hurt finger, took 1 wicket each.
England celebrated this win on the same ground where they won the World Cup six years ago. This made the victory extra special for them.
Stokes and Archer bowled well early in the day. They got rid of Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul quickly. Pant hit some good shots but couldn’t handle Archer’s fast bowling. Archer bowled Pant out. Stokes got Rahul out with a ball that moved in. The umpire first said not out, but England asked for review and won.
Archer then took a great catch off his own bowling to dismiss Washington Sundar. At 82 for 7, Jadeja and Nitish Reddy tried to save the match. They played carefully and scored slowly. Reddy hit the first boundary after 80 balls. But just before lunch, Woakes got Reddy out caught behind.
After lunch, Jadeja hit Archer for four. He batted well with Jasprit Bumrah, who defended strongly. England put fielders close to stop easy runs. Jadeja was almost out lbw but the review saved him. He then hit Woakes for a big six to give India hope.
Jadeja and Bumrah added 35 important runs slowly. Bumrah finally got out trying to hit a wide ball from Stokes. A substitute fielder took the catch.
The umpires delayed tea so England could try to finish the match. Jadeja reached his fifty with a boundary. He walked off with Mohammed Siraj, who also batted bravely. Indian fans cheered loudly, hoping for a miracle win.
After tea, Jadeja and Siraj batted carefully. But in the 75th over, Bashir bowled a ball that hit Siraj’s bat and then the stumps. The bail fell and England won the match. Indian players looked very disappointed.
