On July 22, 2025, Bengaluru Police solved a big robbery case where a gang stole Rs 2 crore from a businessman. They arrested 15 people from a 17-member gang. The police also took back Rs 1.11 crore in cash, four cars, four bikes, two autos, two knives, an iron rod, a machete, and eight mobile phones. The gang tricked rich people by promising to turn their cash into USDT (a digital currency) and double it. Instead, they faked a robbery to steal the money.

Wow, catching 15 robbers? That’s a huge win for the police!

How the Crime Happened

On June 25, 2025, a 33-year-old businessman named Sriharsha V. from Kengeri New Town filed a complaint with Vidyaranyapura police. He had collected Rs 2 crore from savings and loans to start a cold-pressed oil business. He needed a machine from Germany and wanted to convert his cash into USDT. His friend introduced him to Benjamin Harsha, who said he could help.

Sriharsha and two friends brought the cash to MS Palya Circle at 3 p.m. Benjamin took them to a shop to count the money. At 4:30 p.m., six or seven men rushed in, waving knives. They demanded the cash, stole their phones, and put the Rs 2 crore in a bag. They locked everyone in the shop, warned them not to tell the police, and ran away.

Knives and threats? That sounds so scary!

Police Get to Work

After Sriharsha’s complaint, police arrested two suspects near Jamia Mosque, who spilled the beans about the 17-member gang. The police, led by DCP Sajeeth V.J., ACP Narasimhamurthy, and Inspector C.B. Shivaswamy, then caught seven more suspects in Bengaluru, Mangaluru, Chikkamagaluru, Bidar, and Ajmer. They’re still hunting for the rest. They suspect Benjamin and his friends might be part of the crime, and they’re checking where the Rs 2 crore came from.

Catching bad guys across cities? The police are like superheroes!

The Gang’s Trick

The gang fooled rich people by saying they’d turn their cash into USDT and double it through bank transfers with extra fees. When victims brought cash, the gang staged a fake robbery to steal it. Police think this might be linked to illegal money transfers (hawala). They’re digging deeper to find out more.

Faking a robbery to steal? That’s such a sneaky plan!

Why This Is a Big Deal

This robbery shows how criminals use fake crypto deals to trick people. Bengaluru Police’s quick work, catching 15 suspects and recovering over half the stolen money, is a big win. It also warns people to be careful with digital money scams. An X post from @path2shah said, “Bengaluru Police nabbed 15 for a Rs 2 crore crypto scam!” With India leading in digital payments like UPI, as seen in other news, staying safe from such crimes is super important.
