The IPL 2025 season opener between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens is under a rain threat. Earlier today, the sun came out for a while, giving hope for a full match. However, the weather forecast says the sky will stay cloudy, and there will be light rain throughout the day, including during the game. The Indian Met Department has even issued an “orange alert” for Kolkata and nearby areas, warning of more rain.
Rain Affects Team Preparations
In the past few days, Kolkata has seen steady rain, though not too heavy. Because of this, both KKR and RCB had to cut short their practice sessions on Friday. Earlier this week, a practice match between KKR players was also washed out after just one innings. On Wednesday and Thursday, light rain interrupted training, but thankfully, both teams managed to finish their sessions.
IPL Match Plans and Rain Rules
The KKR vs RCB match is scheduled to start at 7:30 pm, with the toss at 7 pm. If rain interrupts the game, the IPL rules allow an extra hour to finish the match. Then the teams can play at least five overs each by midnight, the match will count. If not, both teams will share one point each. After this game, KKR will travel to Guwahati to play Rajasthan Royals on March 26, while RCB will fly to Chennai to face Chennai Super Kings on March 28.
Before the match, there will also be a grand opening ceremony to kick off the IPL season. Fans are excited but also worried about the rain. Everyone is hoping the weather clears up for an exciting start to IPL 2025!
